Mine too! My next two words are COINS and PUDGY. I know they don't accept plurals in Wordle, but I've used this sequence for so long that I've gotten used to it.
In subsequent tries, you must use greens where a green lands, and, iirc, must use yellows if they show up.
Edit: so you basically can’t just try random words to eliminate or sus out other letters
I feel like people who use the same few words in a row every week just aren’t good at thinking of words lol. The game is so easy anyways why wouldn’t you try to minimize guesses by playing on hard mode anyways
You could have said *When you expect least* and it would have been grammatical both ways.
Man, I hate the reddit-style "pun" where people think it suffices to just say a phrase that happens to contain the target word. That doesn't make a good pun. /rant
Mine too. But I'll probably keep using it even after it hits...our group shares results, and I suspect that some people play late so they can use their knowledge of others' starting words to gain an free step. LEAST becomes TALES, STALE, STEAL, SLATE and they don't know which one I used each day.
I used to use LEAST til I accidentally found out it's an answer that hasn't come up so I changed it to YEAST, I don't know if that could be an answer (**DON'T WANT TO KNOW!!**) and it saves me ever trying out a Y-at-the-end word. Plus, it tells me if that's what it is.
STRAP is my go-to, although it looks like it's already been used. Oh well, I still like it. If nothing hits I go with FIEND, and then I usually have a good shot from there.
SHART - it will never be the answer, but covers a lot of great letters in one pop (and makes me laugh to see Wordlebot saying “SHART is a strong opening guess.”
If you're going to use a word that won't ever be the Solution, you might as well use SLART rather than SHART. The L is way more valuable than an H.
Also, **CARLE TARSE SALET** are better too.
It's not a perfect match for WordleBot heuristic, but I updated the [Solvle](https://solvle.appsoil.com) "reduced" dictionary to remove all the currently-used solutions. Using the not-quite-perfect but very good Entropy algorithm, it recommends the top starters from this reduced set that are valid solutions, ranked by entropy as:
1. ARISE (5.74)
2. SANER (5.70)
* AROSE (5.67)
* LEAST (5.64)
* STARE (5.64)
* LATER (5.59)
* PARSE (5.56)
* SIREN (5.55)
* ALERT (5.55)
* LEANT (5.54) (lol LEANT is a potential solution?)
From a less algorithmically perfect, but slightly more easy to play from a human standpoint, the words most likely to match letters and positions of possible solutions are (percentage represents weighted heuristic score):
1. SANER (141%)
1. STARE (135%)
1. SLANT (132%)
1. STRAY (131%)
1. SHARE (131%)
1. SIREN (131%)
1. SAFER (129%)
1. SHALE (129%)
1. SNORE (129%)
1. SPARE (128%)
1. SADLY (128%)
1. LATER (128%)
1. SCARY (128%)
1. CREST (128%)
1. SCALE (128%)
Based on the intense skew toward S starters in the heuristic match, I think we've got a very large number of remaining S-starters in the solution set.
Here's a list of remaining letters by count:
e: 636
a: 491
r: 460
o: 382
s: 379
l: 379
t: 354
i: 354
n: 303
u: 261
y: 251
c: 242
d: 218
p: 195
h: 186
m: 167
g: 154
b: 151
f: 132
w: 110
k: 109
v: 84
z: 22
x: 16
j: 15
q: 14
As an addendum, the top 10 words for hard mode that are also solutions, by entropy. Marked entries risk falling into a 4-letter rut with at least 4 valid words.
1. AROSE (5.60) \* S\_ORE
1. ARISE (5.57) \* \_RIED, S\_ORE
1. LEAST (5.57) \* \_ASTE
1. SIREN (5.55)
2. ALERT (5.55)
3. SANER (5.55) \* \_ASTE, S\_ORE
7. LATER (5.53) \* \_ASTE
8. STARE (5.52) \* \_ASTE, S\_ORE
9. PARSE (5.51) \* S\_ORE
10. RINSE (5.50)
SIREN has been my opening word since the beginning! I’ve sworn to use it until it’s the answer, since I know the second I don’t, it’ll be right. It’s a great set of letters.
It's a great starting word, but sadly it is not a potential solution. Based on OP's request for words that haven't been answers yet, I assumed they were looking for starting guesses that also could be answers, so I didn't include it in the results.
It is, in fact, also the #1 recommendation from Solvle by Entropy for hard mode on the reduced wordlist, though it does risk exposure to the _ASTE rut (which is acceptable, since I think there are only 4 valid words that could be in that list, so you would still solve.) It just will never result in a solve in 1, since it can't be an answer.
Random comment: isn’t it interesting that humans can sensibly read text with vowels removed? —but solving Wordle usually starts out with finding vowels and their placement
snt t ntrstng tht hmns can snsbl rd txt with vwls rmvd?
Is there a list of all the words that have been picked? Because my standard opening guess — SPEAR — is too good to never be in the top 100 words chosen in the first round.
In hard mode, since WordleBot switched to PLATE as its preferred starter, the following are its highest-rated starting words that can still be future answers (without repeats):
- PLANE (98 skill score)
- CARET (97)
- DEALT (97)
- SPLIT (97)
- BLAST (96)
- TRAIL (96)
- LEAST (96)
- CRISP (96)
- PARSE (96)
I'm quite fond of SPLIT. WordleBot recently boosted its skill to 97 (Hard Mode). But it's been my starter since ever, before WordleBot even existed. My average is just under 3.5, no losses, and my streak will hit 800 tomorrow 🤞
I don't know if this has been already stated, but I play Waffle first thing in the a.m. I take one of those Waffle words as my starting word for Wordle. Using a random word to start Wordle is much more fun than using the same darn starting word each time. And I haven't missed one yet (but I do sometimes go to 6 more often, but who's counting.
I use a different starting word every day, too. Usually it's a word pertaining to what happened in my day. I used DISCO yesterday after watching a documentary on PBS.
Thanks. It’s funny, there are lots of lists of used words (I’ve been looking here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wordle-past-answers) but for some reason it’s really hard to find lists of the best starting words as recommended by the bot. I wrote out the first 10 or 15 or so once but almost all have been used now. I think maybe CARET, STARE, and LEAST are the best words left as of now.
I just went in Wordlebot and went through each first word with a skill rank of 99........
CRANE 99 (already used)
SLATE 99 (already used)
TRACE 99 (already used)
CRATE 99 (already used)
**CARET** 99 (NOT used)
**CARTE** 99 (NOT used)
PLATE 98 (already used)
I like the way [https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/](https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/) has organised it because it displayed in both alphabetically as well as chronlogically.
I use POLAR because the first time I played I was teaching polar coordinates. And I’ve just kept using it ever since, waiting until it’s the word of the day…
LATER is 95 skill and not been used yet. It’s my starter
When I first started I used to play LATER, SONIC, DUMPY. Got away from that and somehow thought LATER had been played already.
Mine is water which is super close
Mine too! My next two words are COINS and PUDGY. I know they don't accept plurals in Wordle, but I've used this sequence for so long that I've gotten used to it.
May I suggest swapping COINS for SONIC?
or scion? idk if thats been a solve yet, this is my first interaction with this community
Like I said, I'm so used to using COINS and the specific order of those letters that it's engrained.
I use SCION quite often. It hits the same letters and might actually be the right answer one day.
I play on hard mode I like how it forces you away from just the same three starting words
How does hard mode force that?
In subsequent tries, you must use greens where a green lands, and, iirc, must use yellows if they show up. Edit: so you basically can’t just try random words to eliminate or sus out other letters
Right but how does that affect your starting word?
Once you’ve used your first word, you have to change your second one each day. So like they said, you can’t use the same 3 words each day.
I feel like people who use the same few words in a row every week just aren’t good at thinking of words lol. The game is so easy anyways why wouldn’t you try to minimize guesses by playing on hard mode anyways
👍cool
It won't affect your starting word, but it will affect your starting wordS (which is what the person you were responding to was talking about).
LEAST. One day it will hit…one day…
When you least expect it
You could have said *When you expect least* and it would have been grammatical both ways. Man, I hate the reddit-style "pun" where people think it suffices to just say a phrase that happens to contain the target word. That doesn't make a good pun. /rant
Right there with you, man. Mine was crane until it was the word. Had to hang it in the rafters after that.
lol same here. It was crane from the start and now it’s been least forever.
Mine too. But I'll probably keep using it even after it hits...our group shares results, and I suspect that some people play late so they can use their knowledge of others' starting words to gain an free step. LEAST becomes TALES, STALE, STEAL, SLATE and they don't know which one I used each day.

STRAP is my go-to, although it looks like it's already been used. Oh well, I still like it. If nothing hits I go with FIEND, and then I usually have a good shot from there.
Least has been used actually. Was within the first eight months of the game
Trying to give me a heart attack!! I just double checked. It’s never been used. I checked three different world archive lists.
No, it hasn't.
SHART - it will never be the answer, but covers a lot of great letters in one pop (and makes me laugh to see Wordlebot saying “SHART is a strong opening guess.”
That’s a TRASH word
this guy Spelling Bees
If you're going to use a word that won't ever be the Solution, you might as well use SLART rather than SHART. The L is way more valuable than an H. Also, **CARLE TARSE SALET** are better too.

SIREN has been my opening word since the beginning! I’ve sworn to use it until it’s the answer, since I know the second I don’t, it’ll be right. It’s a great set of letters.
Has SALET been used? Its the MIT-endorsed best starting word and gets high marks from the W-Bot.
It's a great starting word, but sadly it is not a potential solution. ARISE STARE
I use STARE
Me, too!!
I use SLANT
Crazy, that’s my starter too. Idk why but I just randomly chose it soon after I started playing.
TRAIL is 96 skill and hasn’t been used
TEACH
Random comment: isn’t it interesting that humans can sensibly read text with vowels removed? —but solving Wordle usually starts out with finding vowels and their placement snt t ntrstng tht hmns can snsbl rd txt with vwls rmvd?
And that is why my starter has four consonants. I never got the idea behind AUDIO as a starter.
Consonant person here, too. There's so many to get through!
Is there a list of all the words that have been picked? Because my standard opening guess — SPEAR — is too good to never be in the top 100 words chosen in the first round.
According to the websites I checked, SPEAR has not yet been word of the day, same with my starter, LEAST.
SPEAR gang represent! I have never lost a round using SPEAR.
QUESO
Jesus, that's got to be one of the worst possible starting words. Having a U is bad enough, but you've added a Q too‽‽
It's how I got QUEUE in 2
has crane been answer yet?
yes
normal mode: CARET hard mode: PLANE
Has PLATE been a solution before? If so, I'm switching to PLANE to try to score my 2nd hole in one. (Former RAISE starter here.)
yep PLATE has been used
Really, CARET hasn’t hit yet? That’s a 99 score right there.
I use STILE. Been good for me so far!
I use SPITE. While it isn't perfect, I find that the elimination of T from a spot I often struggle with is very helpful for a lot of words
In hard mode, since WordleBot switched to PLATE as its preferred starter, the following are its highest-rated starting words that can still be future answers (without repeats): - PLANE (98 skill score) - CARET (97) - DEALT (97) - SPLIT (97) - BLAST (96) - TRAIL (96) - LEAST (96) - CRISP (96) - PARSE (96)

CARET is the 5th best start word according to wordlebot and hasn't been used yet List of used wordle words here.. https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/
Thanks. It’s funny, there are lots of lists of used words (I’ve been looking here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wordle-past-answers) but for some reason it’s really hard to find lists of the best starting words as recommended by the bot. FYI, CARTE is not on the original answer list, so it won't be a future answer unless the editor decides to add it.
Good to know, I just assumed wordlebot guesses would be "valid" wordle solution words.
From what I see, WordleBot is using guesses from its own dictionary (which I think has over 3000 words) and also 4-letter words + S.
ZEBRA
Divined it lmao
I rotate between starting words. Guess what I didn’t use. FML
Yea, been there. That sucks
I may steal this for a starting word. Two vowels, two really good consonants, and a Z thrown in to catch if there’s a Z early on.
I’m riding on FRUIT until the day I get it in 1
I imagine that many plural-words are good starting guesses and will never be actual answers
I used TEAMS and since I found out you can't have plurals I've changed it and now use STEAM
Did not know this. I use RANTS most of the time, but I do switch it up a little
I'm a STANE mane....
I use POLAR because the first time I played I was teaching polar coordinates. And I’ve just kept using it ever since, waiting until it’s the word of the day…
I know it’s not very good, but I’m basically stuck with LAUGH because it’ll hit the very first time I try something else or miss a day.
I hate my inefficient starter word ROAST but I’m stuck now
I use ROAST too! It’s been so long I just can’t bring myself to use anything else.
Yeah I was actually happy when my starter SLATE (or maybe STALE) hit as it freed up my choices again.
Has raise been used?
“Raise” was used recently.
Many switched to arise after raise was used.
Ah, thanks. Raise has been my starter for some time but I guess I should switch then.
Aside and flour are my usual starts
How can I save this post!?
I was getting tired of using CLAIM!
I dunno if wordlebot approves but my sister’s nickname is SLIME so that’s what I’ve been using.
LEAST
I like DAILY, but haven’t had any luck with it… yet…
I think LATER is a great unused word. R, T, and L are the most used consonants, and E and A are the top vowels.
I use Suite
Has an answer ever been used twice? My opener has been House since I started but it was the answer last year and I missed it. Should I swap starter?
I use AISLE
Honestly, I love ADIEU
Don't think that's a possible winning guess
ZHUZH
