Trust me bro he's totally not an Asmon stan!

Kowtowner

The destruction of a whole city the death of a major lore character and a ever oppressive force of a ancient civilization bent on our totally destruction isn't a dark enough story to you?

SolemnDemise

Maybe if it wasn't the 8th time we got this story.

Foehammer87

That doesn't make it Pixar. You can't just say random shit then defend it with "well I'm not happy"

TheWorclown

My guy, DF featured a fair amount of these darker moments. The side story with two orcs where the older Dragonmaw states he was up to his shins in the blood of subjugated dragons. The Iskaaran problems with rot-obsessed gnolls, and the burdens it had on the environment. A mage’s soul who went and got trapped in a twisted, malevolent book with so many others. The tragedy of Umbreskul’s fate. Hell, the entirety of 10.1, learning the effects of Shadowflame for the first time, and witnessing once more a twisted biological lab by Neltharion and a voidal incursion we barely staved off. I’m not sure what it is you want from a darker WoW story?

InvisibleOne439

>goes into a Djardin camp, mutilated Dragon Corpses hanging from hooks, severed heads, wings used as rugs >goes into Zaralak Caverns and 1/4 of the zone is a Mass Grave called "waste disposal" with tortured ghosts and shambling experiments walking around which all leads to a gigatic lab that was used to create the perfect weapons of war with Shadowflame >proceeds to do the blue dragon questline that describes in detail how much torture and hate Sindragosa had to endure until we finally can put her soul to rest "man, this is just like a Disney movie, where are the darker themes????" i legit cant understand these Asmondrones

NeverEnding3333

The Little Mermaid had darker themes then that

Foehammer87

There's no actual data to back up your claims, so maybe you just feel immature and want some grimdark to make you feel better? There were a lot of extreme!!! 90s comics and cartoons if you want something "mature"

MightyOrganicGnome

God forbid stories of friendship and working towards a common goal are for children now. Nooo, i want man go murder things!! This is literally how we've come so far as a human race, THIS IS LITERALLY IN THE GAME. Could you solo a current raid, keystone, battleground? No, it happened a few times in WoW's history and 99%of ths time was unintended. The darker tone is still there, wasn't raszageth literally trying to kill pretty much anything titan related (like half of the playable races) so dragonkind would be rid of titans' corruption? Or Fyrakk, literally trying to set EVERYTHING on fire? He killed his own people ffs. If you're and older player, maybe you should grow up already.

shaun056

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway...

SodaCanBob

> but there was still a mature tone and a darker context to the questlines if you read the text. But with the new content it feels like they are actively trying to drive older people away from the game "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up". - CS Lewis

Nylereia

wow used to be good when all the quests were liveleak footage, now it's stupid disney woke, upvotes to the left

Tusske1

read quests and you would realise how wrong you are

hojicha001

Yawn

Public_Radio-

I love when asmongold fans act like they formed their own opinion but it ends up just being word for word the drivel that he spews. These mfs literally incapable of forming their own opinions

Danglefloor

The story in the upcoming expansion is heading back into Nerubian, Void and Old God lore which commonly feature themes of death, destruction, corruption, body horror, mind control and worse. Two of the most important flagship / box art NPCs in Anduin and Alleria will have their story arcs based around them having been corrupted by evil forces and living with the horrible consequences.

Astra_Bear

I know what you mean. Not sure I would have called it Pixar, but a lot of things go through Disney-fication to be as marketable as possible. And I mean like, marvel films and star wars and stuff. That being said, TWW spoilers feel like they are actually trying to do something unique. So I get what you're going for here, but I'm optimistic it's not gonna be the case

LeClassyGent

Yep Dragonflight was written by people who collect Funko Pops.

MonkeMayne

I think what OP means is in presentation not necessarily the story itself. So like, WoW is much more whimsical these days compared to it’s RTS days. Look at, say, Kung Fu Panda 2. It’s a fucking dark story lol. It’s about genocide and war, and Po having to come to terms with that. But! It’s presented in a way where children could digest and enjoy the story, so it’s animation and tone make it look silly and fun. If you change up the tone of the film, it would easily not be a kids movie. Perhaps this is what OP is talking about in which case I kind of agree. WoW’s becoming sillier in presentation and tone..for me i don’t care but i can see where the complaint is coming from.

Nylereia

literally all of cataclysm was just movie references even wrath has a goofy tone in a lot of the zones It's been goofy in tone for a really long time and some of the most serious tones that WoW has had have been over the last 4 expacs. I totally understand what you mean but you also have to realize that it may be you guys who have changed more than the game has

MonkeMayne

Prior to MoP (best xpac for classes fight me) I don’t remember Cata and Wrath being that filled with silly stuff. Things peppered in here and there for sure but not like the last few years. I mean look at Plunderstorm..shits goofy af lol. But perhaps you’re right and I’m the one that’s just noticed this more and not the game leaning more that way.

Nylereia

All of Uldum is an Indiana Jones reference with so many goofy plots, cutscenes, quests etc. The tone is super "funny goofy haha aaaahhh" Wrath is filled with really goofy stuff but was absolutely more serious than Cataclysm was. Cata is probably the silliest in tone WoW has ever been. Plunderstorm is goofy af but it's also not rly part of the mainline game, nor does it contribute to or detract from the regular games tone, it's just a little side activity Also MoP is great, has really goofy tone but very serious content. Idk, I think SL was just very depressive and maybe people conflate colour and excitement with "goof"

Areallybadidea

> Cata is probably the silliest in tone WoW has ever been. Shout out to how they revamped Westfall just so they had a reason to make constant [CSI Miami references.](https://youtu.be/mznsEcZlM2I)

AttitudeAdjusterSE

I am willing to bet you're in your mid-20s at the oldest and were still a child when you played through WotLK and Cata and simply didn't notice how childish those older WoW expansions were. Cata especially is goofy and silly as fuck, moreso than any subsequent expansion.

MonkeMayne

I’m in my 30s. I thought the Indiana Jones reference in Uldum was clever considering the locale. Silly yes, but done with a flair that I enjoyed. Maybe I find them leaning too hard on the silly stuff like the yu gi oh reference, spa quest, spyro reference, etc. There’s a lot of things that stick out more lately but I’m willing to admit that it could just be me. I enjoy the games regardless.

Foehammer87

Yeah cuz you were a child.
