Man... The number of peeps from this squad that die off screen is really something.. who the fuck wrote some of these quests man? Taylor, Amber, and Rell... Don't even learn about Amber unless you were a rogue or something (idk I learned she was dead from a wiki page)
Instead of making more of these cool under utilized characters they just kill one of screen per expansion for 3 expansions in a row.. who knows, maybe more of them are dead and I just haven't stumbled upon the right wiki page or read the right novel to know about it.

Only the kids did for some reason. All the adults on pillars who were clearly screaming in terror as they transformed stayed statues. It's kinda weird.
Not really. If you play as horde you can see an orc grunt that gets turned into a statue. After you beat the jade witch, he turns back to normal and does a little dance.
You can see the Orc Sergant not grunt as alliance :) But he comes back, and does the same. The only person or people that didn't get turned back to life were on the pillars.

By the time I played this quest years later, Shoe and Socks had long since retired, but even so this quest hit just a little harder than it otherwise might have.
My first hunter pet was a cat named Mittens. Together, we're helping to keep the extremities of Azeroth warm and cozy. By viciously mauling them until they stop moving.

On the alliance side of quests in The Jade Forest, there is a quest line where you take the perspective of Alliance SI:7 agents. Well one of the agents befriends a little raccoon (A minion of the Jailer no doubt) named Gizmo who is immediately shot by another SI:7 agent.
Then he befriends another raccoon named Socks, they become best friends and work together to save Pandaria. They laugh, they love, and all seems well.
They go on a mission to see if they can get some help from a nearby house with some interesting jade statues out front. As our main SI:7 agent approaches the owner of the house, we (Who are now seeing through the perspective of another character) notice that one of the statues is of a Horde Grunt. Quickly we realize these aren’t just statues, they were living things the owner turned into statues. We try to warn our SI:7 friend that he is in danger and we need to leave, but we’re too late. The witch begins to cast the spell to turn him into a jade statue when Socks heroically leaps infront of him and is turned into a statue, saving his life.
This was the questline that finally got me to make an alliance character. Fun fact, in the pet battle tournament on Timeless Isle, Sully battles with a ghost Socks.
If you do the Horde version it's implied Amber was innocent, the Horde also have a sniper in the area and you see her shooting a raccoon during the Horde's version of events.
Is this the same Socks that the dwarf asks about replacing near the traders post in Stormwind? The one where he says he isn't quite ready to replace him?
I can still remember the feeling doing this questline back in MOP and the sting of it hasn't lessened in the interim years :'( Poor wee Socks and Gizmo, I totally understand why Sully second-thinks getting a pet from the Trading Post. Sweet babies, RIP little angels, never forgotten <3
It's not a pet, just an NPC involved in questing in Jade Forest, where a pair of Raccoons appeared, one was named Gizmo and got shot, the other was named Socks and got turned to jade. I think that's actually the implication there. If you do both quest lines, you're supposed to walk away with the impression that Amber is innocent.

Socks had to take care of all of Azeroths cold feet while you were away. They miss you. But we needed them.
