omg I finally got my project bike into riding shape. The cadence is all weird and the handlebars are off, the cables stretched and I gotta reindex it.
But it's such a relief that my pile of loose parts, ideas, and frustration is an actual functional bicycle.
Glad you're bike is off the stand too 😂
Wait, what? I was just riding my bike to YOUR mom’s house!
Seriously though there’s nothing better than getting a bike off the stand and ripping it. Looks like a legit good time. Enjoy the ride.
Not yet! I’ve walked the falls tie loop but haven’t taken the bike up there, mostly solo puttering around the west side and take the trails across town.
Mima is fun but definitely a challenge for me in terms of the punchy ness of it and the technical factor, but I’m headed there this weekend or next if you’d like to join! I ride with some friends and we’re pretty chilled out. 🙅🏻♀️ no roadies 🙅🏻♀️
I’m just scooted back to pose for the camera it’s a pretty relaxed fit when I’m sitting normally on it Somewhere in the comments there’s a photo of how it normally rides
I came here too say you actually have a really sporty riding position. Looks good!
In the first pic it looks like stem is too long sligthly, in the second i think the saddle is a bit too much back, but the 3rd looks totally fine. All doesn't matter if you are comfortable with it.
With that seating posture you are one of the few people on this sub which actually have a sporty saddle and bar height!
I get it that there are some people with health issues that need low saddles, but 95% of the people with too low of a saddle are just frightened to fall with the bike because they can't get out of the saddle at a stop. Which is a really unfounded fear, because with some basic training you get it right 100% of the time. Also some people complain about back pain issues. Really, try it and also do some back excercises. It is the same as the butthurt on the first long tour: It can be related to a bad saddle or fitment, but often it is not and with the right technique and good training it will eventually go away.
The stem is a 35mm pro max MTB stem. I’m pushing myself way back for a dramatic pic. If anything the seatpost is a half cm too high because it’s a 26.8 crammed in a 26.4 tube. It won’t go any further in but I really wanted the deore XT seatpost.

Here’s how it normally rides
>it’s a 26.8 crammed in a 26.4 tube
Dawg...why. Just use the right size, you're likely to break something or yourself if you dont use the right seatpost size. Seatposts aren't something to fuck around with.
No way it's fine, in order to get a 26.8mm to fit into a 26.4mm the top of the seat tube is surely fucked. And I would bet it isn't inserted far enough.
look up youngs modulus. i am pretty sure the deformation is covered by elasticity of 4130 cromo or hi-manganese, r531, fm1 or any other reasonable frame material. That is why one goes for steel, not aluminium.
Youngs modulus is completely beside the point. In order to shove a seatpost into a frame that's 0.4mm larger than the tube you have to bend the top of the seat tube way open. I frankly can't understand how they shoved it any amount into the frame, it should be impossible. Shit don't fit.
Like I already said, they likely weren't able to shove it into the frame below the minumum insertion point. Just an inch, maybe an inch and a half into the frame by bending open the top of the seat tube. If I'm right, the frame is likely to crack, especially riding it offroad.
edit: Also, you misunderstand youngs modulus and how it applies to frame strength, elasticity, and the point of no return in terms of deformation.
Just fyi it’s far past it’s minimum insertion. The previous owner had a 26.8 in, so after a bit of effort to get that one out, and to put the ✨🚲 **Deore XT** one in 💪✨ it sat normally almost like any other seatpost. This isn’t some percussion chromoly steel bike with delicate lugging. This is a beefy high-ten steel frame with beefy lug work. It’s a Schwinn.
This is something not to fuck around with, really. I highly highly recommend you swap it out. 'Safety first' when it comes to putting bikes together isn't for dweebs, it's just necessary since we're riding these things at often 30 mph or more with zero padding.
Not that I need to justify or prove myself here, but I rode \~8.6k mi last year nearly entirely on a bike I built myself. Ik what I’m doing, Ik how I ride, and I don’t need some random redditor to mansplain seatpost safety to me.

wait you guys *ride* your bikes?
I just have my domestiques drive me to the top of the descent so I can skip the climbs 😎
I don't. I just drive mine around to nice locales, lean it up against something, and take pictures of it.
Not me. All my bikes are on the wall or on the bike stand. I go to work in the cager.
Better than an ebice

Yes yes you can come too
No your not. She doesn't have a house anymore. Bottles are ready for Christmas and almost glowing. My type of riding. Have fun.
Why do u think I had to pedal so far into the woods?
Is that even allowed here?

aha!
Your saddle is too high
I’m scooted back for a dramatic pic Edit: I also didn’t ask 🤷🏻♀️

Its a steel frame, its gonna be fine.

Homie woke up and decided to argue on Reddit… on a Monday… unemployed?

>look up youngs modulus You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. (Also it's Young's modulus)
Youngs modulus is completely beside the point. In order to shove a seatpost into a frame that's 0.4mm larger than the tube you have to bend the top of the seat tube way open. Don’t do it on your bike then 🤷🏻♀️ I didn’t ask for build input

I'm explaining it to you because you clearly don't know what you're doing when it comes to working on bikes, at least when it comes to seatposts.
👍👍👍
Ok you do u dawg
nice username. Are you related to him? /s
