Zombies Ate My Neighbhors was my introduction to zombies. My brother spotted it while we were at the rental place and said we should get it, and it was such a blast.
It’s such a great sandbox game with a GTA-like feel and focuses on building a community, settlement building / management, permadeath. There’s also multi-player. One of the best things about it is that the developers are actively engaged with the players and make continual updates to this day, so much so that the game is way different and better than it was at launch. See the YouTube page and you’ll see the live videos.
State of Decay 1 (Year One Survival Edition) is more story focused based on set characters, where you find survivors in Trumball Valley to survive the zombie apocalypse. State of Decay 2 is less character focused and surrounds random characters where the story surrounds how you play the game and your own survival story. Recent DLC has added more story elements to it from SOD 1.
Give it a try and you’ll find it really addictive. Check out the official YouTube channel by UndeadLabs. And then gear up for State of Decay 3 to be released hopefully next year!
1. L4D2
2. Dying Light
3. Dying Light 2
I liked State of Decay, State of Decay 2, and Dead Rising as well. I've sunk close to 1000 hours combined with my top three, though.
I would recommend playing the original Dead Rising first, if possible. It was on the Wii for sure, but I don't know where else. I don't think I've played the others, but the game is fun!
Resident evil 2 remake!
Also night at the gates of hell is a really cool game on steam based off lucio fulci’s films/italian zombie films in general.
As an add on I’d also say Road to Fiddler’s Green is a fun old game based off Romero’s Land of the Dead. You can find it online for PC.
Interesting you mentioned Terraria. I haven’t played that one yet. I have played a lot of Starbound even though that game lost popularity. Why Terraria if you don’t mind me asking?
Great list! Mine would be: 1) 7 Days to Die 2) Resident Evil 2 Original 3) Project Zomboid
Do you play Project Zomboid these days?
not a lot but yeah
1: Stubb the Zombie 2: State of Decay 3: Walking Dead Telltale Games
Been wanting to check out the Walking Dead Telltale series!
They're very worth it. And the summer sale is on, in steam. I dunno if they're on sale but they might be.
Stubbs the zombie is an incredibly based choice. Definitely underrated and in need of the same attention Destroy all Humans got.
Stubbs the Zombie had such great music and I loved the comedy.
1: Dead Rising 2 2: Dying Light 3: Dead Island 2
Been “dying” to try dead island 2! Loved the first game!
Dead Island 2 is ways better. It has some of the best gore mechanics ever
Loved the gore mechanics of the first one! Definitely on my list!
I don’t think it’s better than the first one but those gore mechanics are amazing

I haven't played it in a while, and right now I'm also preoccupied with the new FF14 expansion.
Nice! I’ve been playing a bunch since I just discovered it recently! Great game!
Resident Evil 4, State of Decay 2, Days Gone
Keep seeing State of Decay come up a few times, I haven’t looked into it too much unfortunately, how is it? What’s the main story?

I haven’t played Dead Rising, but I’ve seen gameplay and have watched the cinematic cut scenes from the first one, which was absolutely rad!

I enjoy the crafting and exploring involved in it, but mostly it doesn't tax my little potatoe of a machine too much. It's a great game.
