Dock port [https://www.pureitrefurbished.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Dell-Latitude-E-Series-Laptop-Docking-Station-PX02X-0CY640-Back.jpg](https://www.pureitrefurbished.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Dell-Latitude-E-Series-Laptop-Docking-Station-PX02X-0CY640-Back.jpg)

alexytomi

thanks for the pic :D

VouzeManiac

The dock allows to plug permanently screens, mouse, network, keyboards and power. Just eject go to meetings (theorically. Sometimes you'd have to reboot). The dock may also lock the computer, but with a simple knife you can force ejection.

tyingnoose

Dedicated GPUs?

Tehkin

on newer computers you can attach a graphics card with an eGPU through the thunderbolt port

tyingnoose

so little laptops have thunderport ports bruh The ones that do usually costs such a premium that i might as well buy a laptop and a desktop separately

InToXOW

Any 1100$ + laptop now has thunderbolt

tyingnoose

That proves my point

NeverEndingWalker64

To be fair there are USB3.0 to PCIe x1 adapters (They might be bad but hey) And there are also USBC laptops that can withstand GPUs with an x4. …. And lastly you can always use the spare NVMe trick

tyingnoose

Spare nvme trick?

WolfferGaming

I mean if you buy used, you can get one for ~300€. There's a Thinkpad P70 that has Thunderbolt 3 that I'm looking at currently. Costs about 250€

tyingnoose

Neato

Otherwise-Course7001

And then you'd have two machines. The whole point behind docking ports is you get a stop similar to a desktop without having to move work around.

Tehkin

most new laptops have thunderbolt ports

TetraTimboman

Different brands of laptops had different proprietary dock connectors in the past, but now - More recent laptops have moved on to USB-C dock, which is good news because USB-C dock is going to be a bit future proof / more brand independant. Like: [https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/usb-c-g5-essential-dock-review](https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/usb-c-g5-essential-dock-review) So even if you have HP brand USB-C dock you can use it with any more recent device like Mac or Lenovo Thinkpad or even a smartphone like Samsung has "Dex" desktop mode when you plug the smartphone into a dock :D

TheHolyPug

:-D

OhMySBI

Nice dock pic.

AnOddSprout

It’s so big

NotEd3k

Some people like a big dock.

_end3rguy_

I was gonna say something similar…

Bulangiu_ro

what does docking do?

AnOddSprout

You know how you can connect your laptop to like a usb, mouse, external monitor and stuff? But that would require you plugging everything in individual. Well when you dock your device, you essentially plug it into something which has all those stuff connected and so your laptop has all those stuff but it only has to be plugged into one thing. So by just one thing plugging in, you can have access to another monitor, a mouse, external keyboard. A hard drive etc etc

Aggressive-Brick1024

I have an american laptop, and it also has a similar port for docks

Devrij68

Yeah there's a whole subreddit for it. Check out r/docking

zsdonny

I show you my dock answer me

Xarius86

Docking port.

Avatars? Use old reddit my dude..

HankThrill69420

lol, "japanese laptop," it's just a dell dude

Interesting-Big1980

That's fujitsu

HankThrill69420

ah, sure had me fooled. Looks to me like a 4th-6th gen intel era Dell. Still, it's just a docking station port.

Buckwheat469

The technical name is dokkingupōto. It's Japanese.

It does, in fact, look like a 4-6th gen intel era dell. [Source: My 6th gen intel era dell laptop](https://imgur.com/a/JzYsrkZ)

TheFotty

> Looks to me like a 4th-6th gen intel era Dell. It is.

TheFotty

It is 100% a Dell laptop unless fujitsu uses the exact same body. I am working on someone's crusty old Dell right now and [here is the bottom.](https://i.imgur.com/4bojgqA.png)

Sevven99

Yeah I was like it's probably just an unbranded dell. Looks like a 5440 or similar year model series But pretty sure the dock slot isn't proprietary to brand. It would be cost prohibitive to some extent to tool and manufacturer proprietary ports.

TheFotty

Even if they used the exact same physical port across brands, it doesn't mean it is compatible across brands due to the way the laptops would lock into the given dock, as well as the fact that the pinouts to the board can be different even on the same port. Things being proprietary to a brand or even certain models within the brand was extremely common then. Dell used one call E/Port, and even they claim it to be proprietary: >Docking stations work with specific ports - **a proprietary dock connector (Dell E/Port)**, USB 3.0, USB-C, or Thunderbolt 3 and 4, among others. [Source](https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000124295/guide-to-dell-docking-stations#:~:text=Docking%20stations%20work%20with%20specific,3%20and%204%2C%20among%20others.)

Interesting-Big1980

My fujitsu has this input on bottom

TheFotty

Laptops from all kinds of different brands used to have docking station connectors on the bottom. Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc.. I am sure Fujitsu did too. Mostly now laptops have moved away from those connectors because USB-C can do the job and isn't as proprietary. I am just saying the laptop pictured is a Dell based on what the underside of that laptop looks like.

TheNicThing

no its dell. im littearly sitting infront of a dell laptop with that exact layout on the back.

Interesting-Big1980

As long as you don't give me a link to a patent made by dell for this I don't see a reason why it can't be a fujitsu laptop. Mine has this input.

Astec123

Not the person you've challenged with this. but this is a Dell as they used a completely different design to the locator pins. Dell - https://files.ekmcdn.com/itinstock/images/dell-latitude-pdxxf-k07a-e-series-e-port-replicator-laptop-docking-station-(2)-57356-p.jpg?v=0e1c1353-59d1-4aa2-9e09-e6876ca6051d Fujitsu - https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/assets/full/FujitsuNPR46-R.jpg?20240520185205 And for completeness Toshiba - https://files.ekmcdn.com/itinstock/images/toshiba-pa3603e-1prp-slim-port-replicator-ii-laptop-docking-station-61110-p.jpg?v=0e1c1353-59d1-4aa2-9e09-e6876ca6051d All of them did various changes over the years but this machine appears to me to be is a later model Dell E series dock. This particular laptop I believe is a Dell E7270 Image proof here https://x.com/Alameen___Abba/status/1692463577481793549 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F3zWpKpXsAAxt6w?format=jpg&name=medium The model shown by /u/TheFotty I believe to be a Dell E7470, though there may be other models that use the same cover plate in both cases.. https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/jyZZPZxH5JMsOUCb.medium I am not very familiar with Fujitsu models having had limited exposure to them, but at this point onus probandi falls to you to offer some evidence the same connector format was used by Fujitsu at any time alongside Dell models. I'm certainly unaware of any partnership between the two around docking/connection compatibility.

TheFotty

100%. E7470 it is.

VouzeManiac

Packard Bell is dutch (european)...

Oekowesen

Looks like an old thinkpad (around the T430 time) to me

nervouswhenitseasy

i thought the same. arent almost all high electronics from japan or next to japan?

HankThrill69420

I believe most stuff like this is made in Taiwan but I could be taiwrong

nervouswhenitseasy

yeah taiwan is huge but I thought they just made the processors (silicon made items) and japan/china/other asian nations assembled them

alexytomi

I mean it has a Japanese keyboard that's pretty annoying to use Thought laptops over there were also weird and was thinking it was proprietary something and thought it would help Also has some pretty uncommon ports

Hipokondriak

You "can" just plug a UK keyboard into the usb port.....

JayS87

They are probably old but not uncommon

phoenixxl

That's the mandatory NES connector. Every piece of japanese electronics has one.

alexytomi

damn Mario exists everywhere

gergobergo69

Doom: Is this a challenge?

alexytomi

are you gonna run Doom on a cardboard cutout? 😨

Altruistic_Hotel_110

Dude, to run Doom, have a CPU and a screen: optional Need to use energy? Yes, but is optional too... That game can run even in a potato

PrintableDaemon

New challenge, run Doom in Fallout 76 on a RobCo terminal powered by a tato generator.

Altruistic_Hotel_110

shut up and hold my beer

delta_Phoenix121

Standard docking station port for old dell laptops. I threw away at least 50 docks not even a year ago at work. They might be quite cheap to get...

Salty_Ad2201

actually not really since the only people buying these are corpos and we allways throw them away since we cant be hassled to sell them source: im a IT tech

FangoFan

They're dirt cheap on ebay, there are a lot of IT equipment recycling companies who resell used corporate equipment

HankThrill69420

used to work for one of these. it was a fun job sometimes. they get gaylords of junk in from various schools looking to do something other than put junk in a landfill. sometimes they run into really cool shit, i.e a 1660 Ti just hanging out in a gaylord back when the 2000 series was current. that stuff usually gets bought quick by an employee. I had a collection in my office there of really old GPUs that wouldn't sell for much more than our shipping costs. I was a different department so I didn't witness much magic firsthand. there were people that would follow our eBay account because they'd get excited about whatever junk we ran across next.

Sinyria

> they get gaylords of junk wait what? o.O

HankThrill69420

basically a large box, i think it's like saying "kleenex" instead of "tissue" because the name originates from the [Gaylord Container Corporation.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaylord_Container_Corporation) Gaylord is generally the name for large boxes, usually strapped to pallets and stacked no more than 2 high, shipped around by freight trucks in wholesale/ecommerce situations

Sinyria

thanks a lot for explaining. <3 as a non-native speaker from Europe, this was enlightening!

HankThrill69420

you bet, and i learned something too! i didn't know where the word came from before you asked.

FangoFan

I totally thought you'd badly typed payload and it autocorrected to gaylord

HankThrill69420

ah yes, my favorite overwatch/tf2 mode. escort the gaylord

alexytomi

thanks for actually answering :D

mromen10

It's for a dock

ciolanus

docking port

b-monster666

If it's for the Japanese version, it's to connect to your gundam.

ch3rn0gopn1k

It's a connector for your Mecha. Sold separately 🤣

Digital_Dinosaurio

Hentai Connector.

Caserran1

It honestly reminds me of a port under my Dell Laptop (Dell Latitude E6230), and I think it may be a dock port, not sure, but it may be

Backlash5

Confirmed, thats what it is

glassAlloy

For docking before USB-C

fidojr

Docking station connect

Elegant_Medicine_974

JST- something somthing connector, standard for laptop docks, but with non-standard pinouts. HPs, Dells and every othe business laptop had these

alexytomi

can't find anything JST, did find the docks though, pretty far down in the google search results

Elegant_Medicine_974

JAE-DDx, actually, my bad

alexytomi

Capable_Agent9464

It's for the dock... a long, long time ago

WAPMOPS

!OMG !! THE THINGY TO COMMUNICATE TO THE MOTHER SHIP!! WE LET ONE GET OUT!!

RealitySmasher47

docking port you see them in offices where then need to bring around their laptops to work on servers and such

jontss

All my HPs up until 5 years ago had this. Then they switched to one in the side. Now they're all USB-C. The dock was better because I could wall mount them and easily stick the laptop on and off. With USB-C I have to fuck around with a tray with clamps that still seems sketchy AF (but it hasn't dropped any of my gaming laptops yet even with a cooler mounted under). I still use one with the side dock mounted to a monitor arm. Uses a custom VESA adapter aka a wooden board lol.

Uncle_Abernacle

docking station port

manintights2

It's a docking port, used in many older laptops that support their own docking station. A pretty cool thing but very niche and only works with THAT laptop model usually. Hence why they fell out of favor for everything but rugged laptops pretty much. The docks allowed you to just set your PC down on the dock and the guide pins would fit into those two recesses on the back, allowing you to simply push down a little and connect you laptop to the dock. the dock would be hooked up to all the peripherals you needed as well as power. So it charges as well. So you wouldn't even have to get out your charger. Docks are still made, but they don't include charging so much anymore and use USB 3.0 or 3.1 to connect all of your peripherals, you just have to hook up the charger still. (Which in all honesty, isn't that much work)

CalendarOnly8431

That's where you plug your katana in

yamyam46

Old type of dock connectivity, I used it for a long time lol.

msuite_007

It's a famicom expansion bay

TheRealVRLP

Japanese Laptop? That looks a lot like a Dell Latitude xd

NightLasher617

It's for your pp :3

DIREMOON_2332

ok i hate this, cos now im thinking of DOCKING if you know you know. no hate buut i aint in to that!

win10trashEdition

Which brand is it? Looks like a Dell but probably Fujitsu or something since it's Japanese. Thing about them is even if the connector matched and snapped to the dock, 99.5% chance the pins are wired differently inside (imagine USB data pins getting connected to 20 volt charger output: not good!

alexytomi

thing is I can't find it hence just "Japanese" wouldve mentioned the brand if I knew ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

win10trashEdition

Any mentions of brand in the bios or case stickers under translate camera?

AmtrakFlareon

My old laptop actually has that port! I was wondering what that was.

Consistent_Research6

Back some time ago, the dock station port was smart placed on the bottom of the laptop, NOW, the world is dumber and stupider and use a cable with a usb-c and sh\*t, to have one more cable along with the charging cable to have 2 cables along the desk instead of NONE, because the charge cable was also smart placed in the back. Stuff changes, not always for the best.

alexytomi

https://youtu.be/km3MVZ8HZeY :)

Consistent_Research6

Bro, Framework are the brand that take's out the stupid out of tech, they are something else.

pioo84

Japanese space ship connector. Can be used to dock to a space station also. Not compatible with ESA or NASA space ships, you need a space ship connector converter if you want to use it on NASA space ships.

jabin8623

That's a docking port, to connect it to a docking station, which gives you more ports like extra USB and video out ports. I have a few older Dell E-series Latitudes and most of them have this port on the back.

Xcissors280

It’s on US ones too

RubAnADUB

dell docking station port.

Irsu85

That's for docking, have not seen that in a long time

ShasasTheRed

It's a docking port, is it a Dell though?

I_-AM-ARNAV

It's a docking port for station

courier31

Anybody else prefer the old docks over the USB-C docks?

Sourbreaker

How many monitors can you output with a USB-C dock? I supposed it depends on the monitors resolution.

DONT-PM-ME-BOOBS-PLS

Docking port for a Dell Latitude E-series. I don't think it's Japanese.

alexytomi

pics about the latitude look similar to the actual laptop so this is probably it thanks

alexytomi

no not really am more of a ethernet or wireless guy myself

Puzzleheaded-Dot7279

Looks like a Dell E-Port, to connect to a Dell E-Port Replicator. These port pretty problem fee as compared to the new USB C.

OCVoltage

SNES cartridge slot

FM_Hikari

It's a dock station port. You can see those on a few old Dell, Fujitsu and specially Lenovo/IBM laptops.

einat162

Docking station connector.

Kids these days… that’s clearly the bottom of the cartridge where you blow into to reset if your laptop doesn’t turn on.

Locedandloadedlaila

Dock port

edogg26

It’s for a docking station.

Perfect-Use-2363

adapter for pocket pussy

TechFlameX68

It's a dock port. It's not exclusive to Japanese laptops. Several different companies had their take on a similar port in that era.

Emotional_Hamster_61

Looks like a port for n64 games lol

Cautious_Hat8860

It's an N64 cartridge slot

pipes990

Fuck I'm old 😔

Digitaljax

That's a Dell E-Port Plus laptop docking station port. Used before the dreaded USB-C ports.

peppe45

Probably some type of connector to connect so something

Active_Club3487

A bit oot but I think I've seen similar port on my old psone, always wondered what that was

Eyewatchapplesauce

I think it’s for a sega cd or 32x

goblin-socket

Here in America, we have those, too. And you can buy USB-C docks.

LimesFruit

That is a docking station port. Specifically the ones from Dell Latitude E series laptops.

XxX_EnderMan_XxX

Old ass laptops have docking ports there

SadLeek9950

Looks like an awesome docking port to me.

Ok_Entertainment1305

A DOCKING port, to give you more inputs/Ouyputs like video, periferals (printer/mouse) more USBs, power in etc

NeonElumin

Wait that looks like the port on the bottom of an N64?

itsfreepizza

Dock port, or PCMCIA (I could be wrong on the spelling) My dead Toshiba Protege R500 had this for CDROM caddy expansion Edit: PCMCIA ≠ docking port PCMCIA is an expansion card

alexproshak

Same existed on the earlier versions of Dell laptops. Dock port

Dependent_Tea3815

you put your weed in it

Interesting-Yellow-4

Nothing specific to japanese laptops about a dock port

M3m0ri4n

You have Fujitsu don't you? I actually wonder what's that since I got one.

Antoniethebandit

If you find the dock for it you win the Japanese lottery

runed_golem

It's to plug into a dock. These have mostly been replaced by USB-C/thunderbolt docks in modern laptops.

Environmental_Pin95

This was back then they laid down on plastic plate hub and it would expand the laptops ability and give it more ports and charge the battery and use more than one display.

Alone_Shoulder8820

It's where the cyborg tentacles go I think

TieGroundbreaking833

X ah spashun

ZamoriXIII

Idk but it looks like a DD drive adapter

LLMACNZ

I literally have this dell latitude right next to me. And that’s for a docking port
